During the lastest art show, Beesel Creatief, it was not uncommon that people listened fascinated to my story about the background of my jewellery. They recognized themselves in the process, it touched them. That was a nice feeling and brought great conversations.
It’s not easy to tell a coherent story that expresses the emotions and thoughts that are involved when I create a piece of jewellery. This requires thought and clarity.
Lately I have many new ideas and I want to convey them in a clear way. I'm forced to sort them out, to create structure and maintain clarity. During the structuring I noticed something: every piece can be related to one of the 4 elements.
Earth. Water. Air. Fire.
They are the building blocks of nature, my biggest inspiration source.
Every time I make new work, one of these elements predominates.
My most recent work, the pendant/brooch Take Flight, combines even two. It's earth viewed from the air, so you get a perspective. By standing "higher" I get a wider picture and need to have a clear focus.
I will start paying more attention to these 4 elements. I have a suspicion that they are going to give me new clues in understanding my jewellery.
